Abstract

Lam Dong has its very potentials of being a strategic coffee producing region serving the domestic market and export. However, the volatility of coffee price along with intrinsic weaknesses had recently affected the competitiveness of coffee production of the province. The Domestic Resource Cost approach (DRC) was employed in this study to analyze the factors affecting the comparative advantage of coffee production in Lam Ha, Lam Dong. Key results showed that despite of the obvious dependence on the world price of coffee, Lam Ha remains highly competitive of coffee production and the competiveness is highly sensitive to domestic resource costs, foreign resource cost and the exchange rate. In particular, if the cost of domestic resources increased by 25%, DRC/SER = 0.7; or if the cost of foreign resources increased by 25%, DRC/SER = 0.641; or if the exchange rate fell 25%, DRC/SER = 0.43; or if the price of coffee exports fell 25%, DRC/SER = 0.866. The approach used in this study gains more insights about the differences in comparative advances of coffee production in Lam Ha District, Lam Dong Province; it could be, therefore, adapted and applied for coffee production in other provinces in Central Highlands or perennial plants in Vietnam.

Abstract | PDF (7.8M)

Abstract

This paper illustrates findings from a case study of applying role-play in EFL classroom. Role-play in this paper does not refer to the traditional model; it is the variations of role-play when students are exposed to authentic situations inside and outside class based on the task-based approach. This is a small cohort of around 16 first year students about seven weeks. Qualitative approach is employed. Previous researchers’ theories about applying role-play worldwide have been displayed in the case when students overcome their fears, challenges and put more their efforts in speaking English with their peers in the class accuracy, fluency and confidently. In other words, through role-play application, students prove themselves in dealing with the uncertainty water of context changes when they communicate in English in actual situations as well as in their long life learning experience. Core factors contributing to students’ speaking achievement are students’ effort and motivation being recognized by role-play. The others could rely on their ability of conducting their speaking competence. This case concludes that role-play should be applied in EFL classroom in the context of Vietnam

Abstract | PDF (4.6M)

Abstract

SVM (Support Vector Machine) is a concept in statistics and computer science for a set of supervised learning methods related to each other for classification and regression analysis. SVM is a binary classification algorithm, Support vector machine (SVM) to build a hyperplane to classify the data set into two separate classes. A hyperplane is a function similar to the line equation, y = ax + b. In fact, if we need to classify a dataset with only two features, the hyperplane is now a straight line. In terms of ideas, SVM uses tricks to map the original dataset to more dimensional spaces. Once mapped to a multidimensional space, SVM will review and select the most suitable superlattice to classify that data set.
