Abstract

Sa Dec has long been one of the main centers of the Mekong River Delta region where the Vietnamese, the Chinese and the Khmer took place the cultural exchanges, in which Goddess cults is typical production. By analyzing and generalizing written materials and combining with fieldwork, observation and in-depth interviews on the basis of cultural exchanges theoretical platform such as historical particularism and the context-based interpretation, we find out that: (1) About origin, there are three elements included in the cult: Viet factors, Cham factors, and Chinese factors. (2) About faith structure, the local community preserves the faith for goddesses who are the first owner of the land, the protectors of the land; blessing goddesses for good weather conditions, for peace and prosperity; Thien Hau Goddess who always gives spiritual blessings and lucks etc.. About the form of ceremonial practice: traditional shamanic dances (Mua Bong Roi, for instance) also provide significant characteristics such as diversity, fusion, and folk-based wisdom, which greatly help preserve the valuable identities of the contemporary communities in Sa Dec.

Abstract

Aprototype of peppercorn solar assisted dryer with capacity of 5kg per batch was designed and fabricated. Experimental results showed that drying time decreases with an increase of drying-air velocity. In addition, it increases with the layer thickness of drying material. The drying time was from 7-9 hours when the pepper was dried from the moisture content of 64 ± 1% (wet basis) to 13 ± 1% (wet basis) at the drying temperature of 600C, the drying-air velocity is from 1.0 to 1.5 m/s and the layer thickness of drying material is in range of 13 to 40 mm. Pepper products are black, wrinkled skin, characteristic strong smell and ensure food hygiene and safety. The product was not contaminated with Escherichia coli.

Abstract

Kappaphycus alvarezii is a seaweed containing numerous carbohydrate with biological activities, especially fucoidan. Fucoidan is fucose polysaccharides (FCSPs) with diverse biological activities including antioxidant, anticoagulant, antiviral, antitumor, anti-inflammatory... and especially immune activity. In this study, fucoidan purification and immune acitivity from Kappaphycus alvarezii algae (collected at Dam Mon area, Khanh Hoa provine) were investigated. Fucoidan was purified from the extract by gel filtration chromatography, the content and the purity in fractions were determined. The molecular mass of fucoidan was determined by GPC and the immune activity of fucoidan was evaluated with MTT. The average molecular weight of low fucoidan was 4.2 kDa. Fucoidan has been shown to be effective in the treatment of several types of cancer that cause peripheral blood mononuclear hyperplasia Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC), at a concentration of 250μg/ml exhibiting toxicity and toxic depressant activity.

Abstract | PDF (2.4M)

Abstract

Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical areas. In this study, the enzyme assisted extraction, was extracted of triterpensaponin from Bacopa monnieri. Screening factors include the ratio of raw materials: solvent; pH; temperature, extracting time and enzyme concentration. The optimum conditions for extracting triterpensaponin from Bacopa monnieri with a cellulase enzyme modeled as Plackett-Burman model showed a treatment temperature of 50 °C, a ratio of 1: 21 (w/v), enzyme concentration 0.81% (v/w), pH 5.3 and 37 minutes extraction time achieved the highest triterpensaponin content of 2.63 (% g/g CK). (1.3 times higher than that of control no enzyme). Thus, the enzyme-assisted extraction method is an effective method, which improves the extraction efficiency of triterpensaponins from Bacopa monnieri.
