Abstract

The critical stylistics is a new field of study in contemporary Western learning styles. With limited to non-literary texts, critical stylistics has the purpose of seeking and exposing ideological underpinnings of texts for social equality and progress. Therefore, in order to help readers with an overview about critical stylistics, this article aims to present four main aspects of critical stylistics, including its origins, formation process, purpose of research, and a set of analytical tools. This article is to provide Vietnamese readers with basic knowledge about the critical stylistics so that the readers can apply the critical stylistics principles and how to conduct critical stylistics in research practices in Vietnam.
