Abstract

Climate change has caused bad weathers, significantly impacted agricultural production. From agricultural restructuring to adapt to climate change, inefficient rice farm areas was changed into fruit farms. To improve the efficiency of production of mango “ba mau” (three colors), this study used Stochastic approach with Cobb-Douglass model to estimate the efficiency of the applied technology and determine factors that affected its production. The result indicated that 100% mango producers reached the efficiency in a range of 95 - 100%. Based on technical inefficiency function (TIE), this study determined three factors that affected technical efficiency of three colors mango, including applied science and technology (Z = - 0.050), technical qualification (Z = -0.023), years for harvest (Z = - 0.011).

Abstract

In the salmon fillet processing industry, the amount of by-product is relatively high and is not used effectively. Salmon head and belly flap account for about 18% of by-products which have relatively high oil content (20%) and high nutritional value. Therefore, utilization of by-products for the processing of high quality of fish oil product is desirable. This study aimed to determine the most suitable processing conditions to enhance the yield and quality of the resultant salmon oil. This study investigated the effect of microwave power levels (495, 630 and 900 W) on the oil yield and quality. The results showed that salmon oil yield tended to increase and at the microwave powder of 900 W gave the high oil yield with good quality. Different moisture contents (15%, 20% and 25%) of the salmon head and belly flap prior to press was also investigated. The preliminary results indicated that the high oil yield was obtained when the moisture content was about 25%. The preliminary results also indicated that the rotation speed of the screw had a significant effect on the oil yield. The graphical optimization was adopted and it predicted the optimal press conditions including rotation speed of 9 rpm and moisture content of 22,5%. Under such conditions, the highest oil yield (84,2%) and good quality parameters including peroxide value (0,35 meqO2/kg), saponification value (188.1 mgKOH/g), acid value (3,5 mgKOH/g) and moisture content (0.89%) were predicted and confirmed.

Abstract

Corpus stylistics is a recent field of study in the contemporary Western stylistics, applying modern computational techniques to process large articles. Corpus-based approach has many applicable values in conducting research in Vietnam and has prospects of creating a breakthrough in research methodology and techniques. It will bring to Vietnamese language learning, which is based mainly on human intuition and manual analysis, a new trend of corpus quantitative analysis with the aid of computers. In order to help Vietnamese readers have basic knowledge of corpus- based approach so that they will have an in-depth thorough understanding of this field or apply it to research on the actual corpora, especially the corpora in Vietnamese language. This article introduces the basic research achievements of Western corpus-based approach. It has five main sections, including definition, approaches, research methodology, software tools, typical research works, strengths and limitations of corpus-based approach.

Abstract

Vocabulary teaching with long lists of L1 equivalents in classes of grammar-translation method (GTM) at most high school contexts in Vietnam is criticized for abusing translation, focusing much on form and structure, lacking space for communicative performance; whereas communicative lan- guage teaching (CLT) is preferred in modern language teaching trends because it motivates learners’ discovery, participation and communication. How likely is it for EFL high school students to gain a significant improvement in their vocabulary acquisition through translation integrated with CLT in a communication-based translation activity (CTA)? This study suggests some CTA models for teaching and learning EFL vocabulary at high school in Vietnam based on the theories of receptive and pro- ductive vocabulary knowledge, and word processes by Nation (2001), together with the advantages of translation and characteristics of CLT. The study may provide practical implications for improving EFL students’ vocabulary and communicative performance at high school in Vietnam.

Abstract

This article will explore two representative character types of anecdotes: intellectual character and crotchet character. From this study, we find in the anecdotes, the type of intellectual character, is based on two fundamental trends: perfectionism and earthiness. In crotchet character, the anec- dote builds the image through two main trends: showing talents, demonstrating characteristics and expressing opinions; and being against the royal power. The social and historical context which has formed the intellectual character is the examination system of the feudalism. However, the crotchet character has been grounded on the image of philosopher Trang Tu and the moral failure of the feu- dalism in the final stage of Le Dynasty and the beginning of Nguyen Dynasty.
