Abstract | PDF (489.8K)

Abstract

The national character is often considered a characteristic in the culture of each nation. That identity is not completely unchanging, but rather a product created by history. Over time, the concept of nation has changed, so the meaning of national character in literature and the arts has also changed. The risk of assimilation in the global era is reflected in the movements and changes of elements constituting each modern artistic whole such as genre, language, psychology, personality of the central character types, etc. However, working as a cultural filter and at the same time restructuring its own identity in the process of acculturation to foreign cultures, the national character helps literature and the art reflect the spiritual states of each nation and makes the art of mankind increasingly diversified and modern.

Abstract

The novel Robinson Crusoe (1719) by Daniel Defoe has made an impact on the world literature. One of the effects of this novel on posterity is to create a source of inspiration about the type of desert island story for junior writers. In the field of European-American literary studies, "Robinsonade" is a term used to refer to works similar in structure to Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. In Vietnam, the term is still little known and not widely introduced. In this article, within our limits, we introduce Robinsonade as a theoretical and historical concept of literature.

Abstract

Moacyr Jaime Scliar (1917 - 2011) was a well-known Latin American writer, whose works focus on the issues of Jewish identity and especially on Jews in Brazil. “The Centaur in the Garden” is his most famous novel. There are many ways to explore this unique work in depth, among which studying the symbolic system in the work from a psychoanalytic perspective is a suggestion on how to read Moacyr Scliar's novel in particular, the works of Magical Realism in general. The symbolic system in “The Centaur in the Garden”, if viewed from a psychoanalytic perspective, corresponds to the life experienced by young centaur Guedali, which is very similar to the sequence of three levels: id, ego and superego in the human mental structure. Through the struggle between instinct and reason along with the main character's journey to find the ego, the work has shown the desire to accept the shortcomings of the being in order to integrate into the community as well as into the man's undying desire for freedom.

Abstract

Referring to the most perfect Japanese literature work, one must call the masterpiece “Genjimonogatari” (The Tale of Genji) composed by the poetess Murasaki Shikibu in the early 11th century, the work which revolves around the life of a great noble in the Heian era - Prince Genji. It wass referred to as a masterpiece because its content goes beyond the framework of the literary sense. It is the most complete “dictionary” in terms of Japanese culture, with all the cultural aspects of the Heian period from material to spiritual being fully conveyed through the author's charismatic pen. The most carefully painted aspect of Japanese culture is music, court music, the music for the upper classes in the royal palace at that time, to be precise. Well-known musical terms are also preserved in this great literary work, especially Gagaku (Elegant Music). Musical instruments, songs, and dances, which have a royal sound and are still performed and enjoyed today, are also present.

Abstract | PDF (408K)

Abstract

The present study has been undertaken to analyze the interrelationship between impulse buying tendency, browsing and impulse purchase in the Tan Son Nhat Airport environment. The data was collected from 166 respondents who had made a purchase at the airport using a structured questionnaire. Regression analysis, t-test and ANOVA was applied to test the proposed model. The results of the study indicate that although impulse buying tendency was found to have a negative association with impulse purchase, the people having high impulse buying tendency were likely to browse more. This suggests that browsing activity is common in the airport environment, but it may not necessarily lead to impulse purchase. The results provide several important implications for the airport retailers.

Using quantitative methods, the research directly collected data from 90 households that built houses to lure swiftlets. The study employed systematic probabilistic samples and completed collecting data in January of 2021. The results of this research will be a useful source of reference about building houses to lure swiftlets.
