Abstract

In the early decades of the 20th century, verse-narrative written in Vietnamese Romanized script in Southern Vietnam was published and republished massively and sold in most of the bookstores with the reasonable price. At this time, the verse-narative was appreciated by readers from the six southern provinces. Due to the historical conditions and changes in people’s demands for reading literary works, however, this form of literature has become unpopular and neglectful since the mid- twentieth century. Within the scope of this study, the advent of this literary genre, the market, and the readers’ reaction to verse-narrative written in Vietnamese Romanized script in the south of Vietnam are presented.
