Abstract

Nguoc mat troi is a novel inspired by Catholicism which is illuminated through a dialogic perspective instead of traditional way. The novel thoughtfully addresses many long-standing and controversial issues related to Catholicism in Vietnam, offering insightful and philosophical resolutions. Through a symbolic system drawn from the Bible - particularly the cross, blood, and the sun - author Nguyễn Một successfully deciphers the historical mysteries surrounding the formation of the Catholic Church in Vietnam. At the same time, he affirms the enduring and unshakable faith of Christians in Jesus Christ. These symbols also serve as a cautionary message, warning of the existential crisis that can arise from a loss of faith. Altogether, these elements imbue Nguoc mat troi with a sacred and spiritual tone, reminiscent of biblical scripture, guiding readers toward truth, goodness, and beauty.
