Abstract

McCullough Colleen is considered one of the active and persistent female writers who stands up for feminism. The Thorn Birds bears a bold sense of gender. Through the central characters in the novel, the article explores specific manifestations: sense of pride in the beauty of female nature, sense of expressing needs and desires for love, happiness and proactive dedication, sense of asserting voice and personality in relationships. By realizing sense of gender in The Thorn Birds, the article contributes an approach to better understand the message of the novel.
