Abstract

According to the growing socio-economic situation, the number of students studying Chinese is more and more increasing, although Chinese is one of the languages ranked as the most difficult to learn. The study aimed to analyze the effects of movies on the students’ learning Chinese through a survey of 210 students majoring in Chinese at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The results show that learning Chinese through movies helps students effectively acquire knowledge and improve their language ability. Specifically, students understand more about Chinese culture (30,5%), and students practice listening comprehension when watching Chinese movies (32.3%). In addition, the study also uses a Logit regression model estimated by the method of maximum likelihood to compare popular Chinese learning method, showing that apart from learning Chinese through movies, the fact that students do a lot of homework also has a significant impact on the effectiveness of learning Chinese.
