Abstract

With the approach to the myth theory of Roland Barthes and the theory of discourse by Michel Foucault, we establish Hwang Sok-yong’s sense of demystification in the novel “Shadow of Arms” through a number of archetypes, patterns, and actual historical events. The fragmentation of central and important myths in the spiritual life of Koreans aims to build a new myth, associated with the fragmentation situation and cultural sensibilities of Koreans, helping the reader to look directly at the nature of the past, forming the right thoughts and feelings for the war, the country, and the people of Vietnam
