Abstract

Yan Lianke is one of the most important contemporary writers in Chinese literature. He is considered as a full of conscience, and responsible writer when facing with the downside of society and the darkside of human heart. The image of the crowd is a way of reflecting the popular mind, and the historical and cultural community in a certain historical period. By using statistic and classification methods, this study initially introduces an overview of the quantity, composition, and frequency of appearance of the crowd images; Therefore, the article shows simultaneously, the “herd” nature of the crowd as the embodiment of evil, custom in modern Chinese society, and the artistic features Yan Lianke’s novels, bold colors of mythorealism
