Abstract
Pachinko is a historical novel about the Korean immigrant minority community since the early twentieth century. The minority community has been forgotten by history, but with perseverance and effort to build their identity, they have written their own history. Faced with the hegemonic power of the Japanese empire, Korean immigrants constantly struggled to survive. The two most common ways are compromise and resistance, depending on the specific circumstances, they make the best choices. These choices are not only reflecting their identity but also the noble human beauty that they want to pass on to their descendants. Min Jin Lee, with the feeling of a Korean immigrant, wrote about the harsh circumstances and the soul beauties, blended in epic sound and everyday simplicity.
